What is it?
International Thespian Society (ITS) is an honor society devoted to honoring student achievement in theatre. ITS recognizes, rewards, and encourages student achievement in all aspects of theatre, including performance and production. ITS is similar to other honor societies such as National Honor Society, Beta Club, etc. Thespians in good standing may earn honor cords and/or medallions for graduation.
How do I join?
Eligibility is based on the accumulation of the equivalent of 10 Thespian Points. Points are awarded for participation in theatrical productions and other theatre-related activities. Typically, at OHS, this means involvement in at least 2 full-scale productions. The number of points awarded for a production varies based on the acting role or tech position you hold.
What shows/ACTivities are eligible for points?
The following types of activities are eligible for points:
- Shows done at OHS for a public audience.
- Attendance at theatre festivals such as NCTC and NC Thespian Festival
- Participation in theatre-related events such as the One Day Play Festival
- Service as a drama club officer.
- Volunteer hours in service of the theatre program (Mr. Wilson will announce if a volunteer activity is eligible for points).
- Students may count up to one (1) show from middle school or community theatre towards their eligibility. (Must provide proof of participation).
- Both actors AND technicians are eligible.
