Another Sunday already...wow

Well we are certainly staring down the barrell now.  Rehearsal starts this week and so does September.  We will have logged 4 weeks at the end of this upcoming week.

September 19th is Capitol Steps....Comedy group a good start to a new season in Performing Arts Center.

The Players of Capitol Steps ... Sept. 19th 2006

So get your tickets if you like that political humor stuff.
They apparently have no party affiliation.  So all is fair in love and war.

I hope the cast is ready to rehearse--The schedule this week looks something like this...
Rehearsal Starts Monday!

MONDAY:  Block Act I (yes all 68 pages) 5:00 - 7:00

TUESDAY: BLOCK Act III (yes I already know about open house) so...3:30 - 5:00

WEDNESDAY: Block Act II (There is no way we will get through all of this in one day) 5:00 - 7:00

THURSDAY: Finish Act II (Cause there is no way we will get though Act II in one day) 5:00 - 7:00

 SO - T9 - Get ready

I'll check back in this week with an update on how things might be going.

I think Shakespeare would be proud to be in Idlewild (which I actually enjoyed)

Sunday Forcast...Beaten but Ready

Well Jr. Miss got me...

America's Junior Miss Logo

Friday night and Saturday night were spent in the home away from home. (Opelika Center for the Performing Arts - as if you didn't know)  I do have to say it went exceptionaly well and besides a little stressful chaos, which is to be expected after 6 years, everything ran as smoothly as possible.  Thanks to all who helped and congrats to the winner Miss Sprayberry I believe???

I bigger thanks to the "new" TECHIES (a term used to describre Technical Theatre folks).

It's just a wrench...

Alex "LEX" Kelly, Trace Tillery, and T.J. Mack who all got a little bit of individual hazing, but hopefully they will come back for the next run.  Some got it worse than others...sorry LEX.  I also can't forget the few of the ACTORS turned TECHIES which can be scary sometimes...but Peyton, Adam, and Jacob definetly couldn't have done it without you guise. Yes STU got a point in the new game...thanks olde buddy

So next week right -- this is a forcast.  Well let's just say, "Let's get ready to rumble!"

NOISES OFF AUDITIONS are TUESDAY!

Sardines...the butt of every joke...

Line Up for the week looks a little like this:

Monday: Theatre Society Meeting in room 106 (3:20 - 4:00)

Tuesday: Noises Off - Auditions - Sign Up for Time (3:30 - 8:30)

Wednesday: Noises Off - Call Backs - Director's Request (5:00 - 7:00)

Thursday: Noises Off - Cast meeting in room 106 (3:20 - 4:00)

That's it as if that wasn't enough.  It is officially happening - I guess.  The great news is we probably have the most students signed up in the history of the program.  We have over 50 people signed up to grab only 9 roles in the play.  Good luck to you all, I can safely say if you come with one of the nine most prepared auditions you have a good chance.

I will try to answer all questions in the meeting on Monday.

I'll try to say more and less next time-

The Prodigy Gets Impatient...

Well I don't know that I've ever been this prepared for a year to get going...not only did I have audition material for the fall play ready this summer...

 BUT

Revival Playbill 2002

Wesley Ballew (The Prodigy if you didn't know--check out the staff page on the website) came up to the high school with his Sondheim Score

Mr. Sondheim are you insane or genious?

& well he forced Herr Director to prepare his audition material for

DECEMBER AUDITIONS of INTO THE WOODS!

(Anything after this comment is mostly kidding)

After we played the entire score well I decided we might skip Noises Off and start on Into the Woods next Tuesday...seriously-

so pick up the new material on Thursday morning.

Wesley says he also wants to be the WOLF/ The Narrator/ Rapunzel's Prince/ and the Voice of the Female Giant... so I said okay...

That's all for today at school...

More or less next time....

Alumni still appearing on stages...

P. Winegar @ UofAlabama "Major Barbara"

I guess if this BLOG is going to be good for anything it should be informative about alumni students that are still active in the arts.  It is one of those rare occasions when you see how theatre has affected and infected these selected few young adults...

Patrick Winegar pictured above appeared in University of Alabama's "Major Barbara" in 2006 and Jon Mark Ponder appeared in Auburn's "Best Little Whorehouse In Texas" in 2006 and made his directorial debut this summer at Auburn with "Sister Ignatious Explains it All". (Which also happened to star one of our indepentedly found alumni Cliff McCollum)

I am very proud of these young archers of Dionysus.  I also look foward to any current info anyone can send on past students involved in the arts.

I'll try to say more and less next time...

On The Cusp of New Adventures...

logoSo here I sit..and I should be asleep.  Yet, thinking of this coming year is really something that one can not avoid.  I was reflecting a bit about the past with the making of this website.  You can expcet that going through old photographs of distant shows with faces I haven't seen in years lead me to do some reflecting...so here it goes...

Just when you think you got a good thing going--you kind of have to sit back and take in the big picture.  I think last year was almost too perfect.  Things fell into place so perfectly that it is almost scary to even think about embarking on topping those feelings.  Reality will intially set in Monday when I realize that last years class is gone.  Last years class was very valuable.  Without mentioning any names people will sorely be missed for many many reasons--I can't even really begin to reflect I think reflecting can only lead to being upset whether it's a good upset or a bad upset.  Things you should have said...moments you might have missed.  I hope all of you enjoy your next adventures outside our safe haven...

So to the future...that is why I'm here.  Well let's just say it's not easy to not think about the future of the program as well.  Maybe the one constant question I've heard about both the shows we are doing this year is, "Do you have the talent to do that?"  Well I guess I believe I do...or else I wouldn't be embarking on such huge projects.  I think that is going to be the key element to this years productions.  The big picture-the ensemble-can we get the right group of people to gel and create a production that will go down as the best that we've ever done.  You know besides be perfect -- that's all I expect from the chosen few that are selected for this years shows.  Be perfect and make it the best one they've ever seen.  Taking nothing away from any of you alumni...I guess I feel that I have "as a whole" an imensely talented group...so those of you that were in Picnic and Sound of Music and are coming back that puts a lot of pressure on yall...That should be motivation enough...but well let's just say thinking of all this lead me to think about quite a bit about other things and other people...
One alumni that I haven't seen in a while (well I saw her briefly just the other day) and well then I saw her mom the next day and guess what then I found out (and I had no clue that he was her brother) I have her younger brother (man I'm old) in class -- so I thought "it's a sign" to at least give her some thought.  When she came in the program she came out of no where and well suprised a lot of people.  She was a senior and had just moved back into Opelika from previously living here.  No one knew who she was going into auditions.  It seemed to be she said to herself that she only had one year -- and well she made the most of it.  People that thought they were the "ones" that were going to get the part were well partly shocked to see her name top the character list not once but twice that year. (Earnest and 42nd St.)  She was a true profesional and well so I was just thinking of what a prize she was and how you all always have be aware of those "new" people who come out of no where and blow away your audition and leave THEIR impression on the OPAC stage.
MORALE:  Always be ready to give 100%--prepare and strive to your best work...you never know who else has talent.

AUDITIONS ARE IN TWO WEEKS!

  That's all for now-

I'll try to say more and less next time...
